It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Robert Andrew Albert Shebib, age 75, beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend on Thursday January 11, 2018, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born on November 25, 1942 in North Sydney, Robert was the son of the late Albert and Alexandra (Kawaja) Shebib.
He graduated from Nova Scotia Teachers College and taught school at St. Mary’s Elementary and Thompson High Schools for over 30 years until his retirement in 1996. He was a landlord to a number of apartment buildings in the area. He was involved in his community being a member of Northern Yacht Club, Knights of Columbus and Kinsmen Club. Robert enjoyed sailing his sailboat on the harbour, swimming at the Northside Community Pool and playing his fiddle.
He was a longtime volunteer with the Canadian Diabetes Association and a lifelong devout member of St. Joseph Church.
Robert is survived by his children, Blair Robert Shebib, North Sydney, Sean Albert (Natasha) Shebib, Sydney Mines, Jeannette Marie Shebib, North Sydney; grandchildren, Celeste, Logan and Jayden Shebib and Brandon Buis; by his brother, Ken Shebib, Alberta; nephew, Ken Shebib, also by a number of cousins.
Besides his parents, Robert was predeceased by his wife, Joan (LeBlanc) Shebib and an infant sister, Jeannette.
The family would like to thank the Doctors and Nurses of the ICU and CCU at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for the excellent care given to Robert during his illness. Also thanks to close friend, Nancy Smith for her support and friendship.
By request there will be no visitation. A funeral mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Wednesday January 17, 2018 at St. Joseph Church with Rev. Patrick O’Neill officiating.
Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetic Association or to a charity of choice.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney.
