Cheryl Joanne MacLennan, Ottawa/Blue’s Mills, passed away at the Ottawa Civic Hospital, on Sunday December 31, 2017. Born July 5, 1959, she was the youngest child of the late Clarence and Rebecca (Macdonald) MacLennan of Blue’s Mills. She is survived by her husband Fred (Rick) Casey, sisters Jessica, Elinor Clark (Albert), brothers Clarence (Nancy), Bill, aunt Mabell Leclair, nieces Tara (Steve Brass) -Thane and Thurston, Janet (Elliot Alamo) - Justin, Elise (Robert Frizzell) – Abigail, nephew Alex, sisters and brothers in-law and many nieces and nephews from the Casey family.
Cheryl graduated from St. F.X University in 1980 and received her Masters of Library and Information Studies from Dalhousie University in 1985. She moved to Ottawa in 1980 and worked in several government and private company library positions. Cheryl started her own company in 2002 and began a successful career as an information consultant which continued until she became ill.
Cheryl always maintained a connection to family and friends in Cape Breton. She and Rick travelled to CB annually and spent time at their cottage here. Cheryl enjoyed travel, art, music and reading and was happiest spending time with Rick, working outdoors on their properties in Ottawa and Blue’s Mills, playing with their dogs, Nils and Jack, and socialising with family and friends. She loved to hear and tell stories and will be remembered for her wit and sense of humour.
A service was held on Thursday, January 4, at the Alan R. Barker Funeral Home in Carleton Place, ON, officiated by Margie Ann MacDonald. Internment of ashes will take place in the spring in Cape Breton.
