Stewart, Jarvis Ronald - Truro

Stewart, Jarvis Ronald – Age 92, Truro, passed away January 14, 2018, at home.
Born in Lyttleton, New Brunswick, he was a son of the late R. Ambrose and Cora (Matthews) Stewart.
Jarvis was a veteran of the Second World War. He joined the Canadian Navy in 1943, and served on loan to the British Navy for one year on a minesweeper in the English Channel and North Sea. He also took part in D. Day Invasion at Juno Beach, Normandy, and served on Canadian Destroyer, H.M.C.S. Haida until discharged in 1946. He then operated a White Rose Service Station in Stewiacke for a number of years, and then operated it in partnership with his brother-in-law, Bob Kent for 10 years. Jarvis drove the first school bus for Colchester County School Board, a 1948 Reo 43 passenger, which he drove for 16 years. In 1966, he went to work with his brother, Raymond, in the lumber business for 20 years, and then sold real estate for three years before retiring. He was a member of Stewiacke Volunteer Fire Department for 36 years, and a long-time member of Stewiacke United Baptist Church. He was a member of Stewiacke Lodge 98 AF-AM, and also had been a member of Truro Branch No.26, Royal Canadian Legion.
Surviving are his daughters, Janie, Truro; Wendy (Kathy Walker), Hall’s Harbour; sister, Betty (Robert Kent), Long Beach, California; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, of 70 years, Lillie K. (Woodworth) Stewart; sisters, Elsie, Sadie; brothers, Herbert, Ambrose Jr., Menzie, Mac, Raymond.
Cremation has taken place.
A celebration of his life and interment of ashes in Pine Grove Cemetery, Stewiacke East, will be held in the spring.
