Malcolm Martin MacPherson

Malcolm Martin MacPherson passed away peacefully at Kings County Memorial Hospital with family at his side early on January 20, 2018 at the age of 74. Malcolm was born in Montague, Prince Edward Island on May 16, 1943. He was son to J’ Marty and Marjorie MacPherson of Brooklyn and beloved brother to Irvin and Margaret, all of whom have predeceased him. Malcolm talked of a loving home and community in his early years in Brooklyn. Following high school in Montague, Malcolm attended Prince of Wales College, and after 2 years he moved onto Dalhousie University where he graduated with a B.A. in 1967. In 1969, he earned a B.Ed at UNB Fredericton and returned to Montague to teach at the high school there. Later, he found careers at Orwell Historical Village, and as valued employee of the Islander Motel and the Comfort Inn in Charlottetown. Many people knew him as their wedding photographer. A devout man, he served faithfully alongside his Presbyterian family and more recently through the Hospice of Southern Kings. Malcolm was committed to the Alcoholics Anonymous program; and shared the virtues of the program widely. Malcolm nurtured his many friendships: friends from his early school years, university years, colleagues, fellow travellers through AA, from his church, and his community. He counted them as blessings often. In turn, Malcolm was much loved as evidenced by his many visits, phone calls, and letters in recent weeks. Our dear Malcolm was a humble man of great intellect, compassion, faith and positivity; his gentle humour will be missed by all who knew him. Malcolm MacPherson is resting at Ferguson Logan Funeral Home in Montague. Visitations will be Tuesday January 23 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service will be Wednesday, January 24, at 1:30 p.m. at WellSpring Presbyterian Church 8321-8325 Commercial Rd, Montague, P.E. C0A 1R0. Interment to follow in Valleyfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations are gratefully accepted to the Hospice of Southern Kings. www.fergusonlogan.com
