Selway, Christine Beryl – Truro
Selway, Christine Beryl – Age 70, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on January 22, 2018, in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Christine was born in Plymouth, Devon, England and grew up in Malborough, England. She was predeceased by parents, Rhoda and Arthur Horswill of Ilsington, England.
Christine married Arnold Selway in 1967 in Abbotskerswell, England. She went to college in England to train as a cook and then worked as a cook for a private school. She was a gifted pianist and played the pipe organ for the Anglican Church in England. Christine and Arnold immigrated to Canada in 1968 where Arnold worked on a farm in Fort Ellis. Their daughter, Julie, currently of Sudbury, was born. Christine and Arnold bought their own farm in Alton where she lived for most of her life. Their son, Tony, currently of Moncton, was born soon after they moved to Alton.
Christine enjoyed cooking, gardening, quilting, music, and Tai Chi. She played the organ and was part of the choir of Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Stewiacke for many years. She also taught Sunday school in Holy Trinity, and piano out of her home. Christine learned to play guitar and took choral lessons. Her cooking skills were helpful as she was diagnosed as a Celiac years before gluten-free food was easy to buy. She made wheat bread and, later on, gluten-free bread every week. She made one quilt per year for each of her family members for baby cribs, twin-size and queen-size beds.
Christine is survived by her husband, Arnold, Lower Onslow; sisters, Dorothy Lewis and Marion Marshall of England; Julie Selway, husband Jian Xiong and children Edward, Peter and Henry Xiong; Tony Selway, wife Tracy Selway and children Rachel, Liam, Aeden and Connor.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Arimathea Funeral Cooperative, Upper Musquodoboit. Funeral service will be Thursday, January 25 at 2 p.m. in St. John’s Anglican Church, Truro, with Rev. Lori Ramsey officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Multiple Sclerosis Society (Atlantic Division) or a charity of your choice.
The family wishes to thank Colchester East Hants Health Centre Palliative Care and Intermediate Care Unit nurses and doctors for their kind care. The family also would like to thank staff and nurses of Parkland, Fergus Hall, Truro, for seven years of care and support. www.arimatheafuneral.ca
