WAGNER, Raymond Allison (1931-2018) With great sorrow we announce the passing of Raymond Allison Wagner on Thursday, January 25, 2018 in his 87th year. Ray died peacefully with his family by his side, at McNally House, Grimsby, Ontario. Ray was a devoted and beloved husband to Pansy "Pat" (nee Veinotte) for 66 years and a loving and cherished father to Susanne (Ted), Barry, and Michael (Ines). Dear grandfather to Michael-Jon (Erin), Allison Rae (Louie), Ciara and Eden. His grandchildren will treasure the memory of their adored "Guppie". Ray was thrilled to welcome the birth of his great-grand daughter Ava Grace in November 2017. Ray was a foster parent to Lori Ogden-Walker (Keenyan and Demara) and was Godfather to Heather and David Veinotte. Ray will be greatly missed by his brother Curtis of Sudbury, Ontario and by his and Pansy's extended family including those in the Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia where he was born in 1931. Ray was a Member of the Union Lodge #7 in Grimsby, had a 35 year police career, was President of the Grimsby Police Association for years, and served with the Niagara Regional Police where, in addition to a number of commendations, he received an award for bravery for a rescue made from a burning building. He retired from the Region in 1991 and was able to devote even more time to his lifelong community work, especially his advocacy for children, and those who worked for their rights. He was involved in the Community Family Treatment Programme at Chedoke-McMaster for 23 years and was a member of the Board of Directors, Youth Services Niagara, for more than two decades where he and Pansy were honoured by the naming of a youth home in Fonthill as "The Ray and Pansy “Pat” Wagner Home". They valued their rewarding involvement with the Home and its visionary Director Mark Patus. Ray also volunteered at Chedoke- McMaster events for children, including picnics, Christmas hampers, summer camps, fundraising, organizing and supervising day bus trips to the Tim Horton Camp for underprivileged kids in Parry Sound. He was a talented carpenter, wood carver, and an avid gardener. The family wished to extend a special thank you to Dr. S. Pugsley at the Firestone Clinic, St. Joseph's Hospital, Hamilton, Ontario for his years of outstanding care and friendship. Special thanks to Marilyn. Our appreciation and gratitude also to the wonderful nurses, staff, and volunteers at McNally House. You truly are angels. Visitation at STONEHOUSE-WHITCOMB FUNERAL HOME, 11 Mountain Street, GRIMSBY (905-945-2755), on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 from 6-9 p.m. Friends and family were also welcomed to attend Trinity United Church, 100 Main Street West, Grimsby on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 for visitation beginning at 10:00 am where a Masonic Service began at 10:30 am followed by the Funeral Service at 11:00 am.
