Murphy, Arthur Clifford – Middle Musquodoboit

Murphy, Arthur Clifford – Age 98, passed away January 31, 2018.
Born in Lake Egmont, he was a son of the late William and Ella (MacKenzie) Murphy.
Arthur began his working life in the woods at a young age. He joined the army in 1942 and serves overseas as a gunner in the Royal Canadian Artillery in the Second World War. He was part of the D-Day forces, landing in France, and seeing continuous action in Belgium, the Netherlands, and Germany until the end of the war. It was during training in England that he and a friend decided to go to Scotland while on leave. It was on that leave that he met Jessie, his future wife. After the war, they settled in Musquodoboit, where he farmed until 1968. He then started working for Farmer’s Dairy as a truck driver until he retired in 1982. Arthur was an avid gardener, and enjoyed sharing the bounty from his efforts with family and friends. He was quick to help family and friends whenever help was needed, and took great joy in being able to assist in whatever way he could.
Surviving are son, Colin (Nancy); daughter-in-law, Anne Murphy; grandchildren, Dawn Murphy, Amy (Matthew) Garland, Jennifer (David) Whitten, Jessica Murphy and Jeffrey Murphy; great-grandchildren, Leah Whitten and Christopher Whitten.
He was predeceased by his wife, Jessie (Smith); sons, Ronald and Philip; brothers, Allan, John, Frank, and Fred; sisters, Gertrude Stewart and Hazel McMullin.
A spring burial will be held at a later date in Elderbank Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Canadian Diabetes Association.
