Trueman Lysle Allen, 88, of Mount Whatley, and formerly of Timber River, NB, passed away peacefully at the Drew Nursing Home on Tuesday, February 6, 2018. Born in Bayside, NB, he was the son of the late Trueman and Hilda (Amos) Allen.
Lysle had been a teacher in Murray Corner, Aulac, and Deer Island and a salesman for Dominion Coal. He had been a senior executive with Eatons for seventeen years in Moncton, Toronto and Winnipeg as well as co-owner of Allen's Gas & Grocery, Marshview Texaco and Hometown Jewelry. In addition, he spent many years working with his son Bill, mentoring him at the Aulac Big Stop. He was a member of the Sackville Curing Club, Probus, the Westmorland #44 Masonic Lodge, F & AM, and the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 26, Sackville. He was a dedicated entrepreneur, an avid gardener and a die-hard fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs.
First and foremost, Lysle was a devoted family man. He will be dearly missed by his wife of sixty-six years, Bernice "Bunny" (nee Eaton), Mount Whatley, NB; his children, Joanne (Henry) Jansen, Calgary, Julie (Wayne) Page, Toronto, Mark (Glenda) Allen, Timber River, Michael (Tracy Stewart) Allen, Halifax, and William "Bill" (Tracy) Allen, Aulac, as well as eight grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, a brother, William (Marianne), ON, and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Lysle was predeceased by his sister Sylvia Evans.
Arrangements are under the care and guidance of Jones Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from their Port Elgin location, 3 West Main Street, Port Elgin, NB (506-538-2241) on Friday, February 9, 2018 from 6-8 pm. A funeral service for Lysle will take place on Saturday at 2 pm. William Drysdale DLM presiding.
Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 26, will be conducting a memorial service on Friday at 5:45 pm at the funeral home.
The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the caregivers of the Chignecto Unit of the Drew Nursing Home for their compassion and support these past six years.
Donations in memory of Lysle may be made to the Drew Nursing Home or a charity of the donor's choice.
