Edison G. King
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Edison Garfield King, age 79, beloved father, grandfather and brother, on Thursday February 15, 2018 at the Northside Community Guest Home, North Sydney.
Born in North Sydney on April 11, 1938, Edison was the son of the late Mildred King. Edison was employed at Municipal Ready Mix, starting out in the boiler room with his grandfather John King, when he was still a teenager and continued with the company until his retirement. He will be best remembered by those that worked there for his daily visits with the service truck, not only for fuel but for the news of the day. He was a longtime member of the Frenchvale Volunteer Fire Department, something he enjoyed very much until he was forced to retire due to health reasons. Baseball was also a favorite pastime with lots of games played and watched “in the creek”. His sense of humor and quick wit will be missed dearly.
Edison is survived by his son, Brian King, Red Deer, AB, his daughter, Linda (Brian) Betts, Sydney Forks; two grandchildren, Steven (Shannon) and Kelsie Betts; his sister, Helen Bennett, New Hampshire.
Edison was predeceased by his wife, Catherine “Kay” (Luffman) King in 2010.
Visitation for Edison will be held 7-9 p.m. Monday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Funeral Home with Rev. Stephen Mills officiating. Burial will take place in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney at a later date. Donations in Edison’s memory may be made to the Parkinson Society or a charity of choice.
