Marina Matheson

Marina Dorothy Matheson, age 83, of Glengarry, passed away on Friday, February 23, 2018 in Shiretown Nursing Home, Pictou.

Born in Trinity Bay, Newfoundland, she was a daughter of the late Simeon and Rosanna (Cummings) Reid.

She will be dearly missed by her children, Donna MacLean (Scott Grant), Abercrombie; Susan Rundle (Peter Mabey), Westville; Darin, New Glasgow; Carl (Shelley Roach), New Glasgow; Lori Matheson, Lower Sackville; son in law Murdock Cyr, Westville; 18 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters Rosie Fielding (Dave); Shirley Fuoco; brothers, Lloyd Reid (Cecile); Alan Reid (Loretta); sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Albert Matheson, Robert Matheson (Pat); Nancy Langille (George); Margie Matheson; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband Douglas; daughter Elaine McIsaac; sisters, Nellie Summers, Sadie Driscoll; brothers, Les, Jack and Walter Reid; brother-in-law Neil Matheson; and sister-in-law Beverly Matheson.

A thoughtful community person, Marina volunteered at several places, including Shepherd’s Lunch Room and the Salvation Army. She was a former member of the Ukelele Group and the Christian Fellowship Church Choir. Above all Marina loved spending time with her family. Whether it be sitting around her table to enjoy a game of Uno or crib or just chatting with them over a cup of tea. Her main priority was her family, making sure they all felt loved and that is one job she did perfectly.


Marina is resting at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville with visiting on Tuesday from 2-4p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Her funeral service will be held 2 o’clock Wednesday from Eagles Funeral Chapel, Westville, with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating. Burial will be in Lorne Cemetery. There will be a reception to follow at the Westville Recreation Centre following the burial.
