It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Wayne Calvin (Hotdogs) Milley. Wayne passed peacefully away on March 1, 2018, surrounded by his loving family & his best friend Molly, after a short battle with cancer and a long battle with diabetes and dementia.
He was born on Jan. 3, 1947 to Mary Elizabeth Agnes and James Alexander Milley in Glace Bay NS. He lived in Donkin until he moved away to Toronto to work at Atlantic Sugar Refinery. Before moving to Toronto, he worked at Joy Supermarket in Glace Bay. Upon returning to his beloved Donkin, he worked for Shores Food fair, until becoming a Miner for Devco, where he worked in No 26, Prince Colliery, Lingan, Donkin, and Phalen. After the mines closed Wayne went to work as a security guard with Maritect, and the Commissionaires, working at the Heavy Water Plant, GB Hospital and the CBRH until he retired.
Wayne always loved the village of Donkin and the people who live here. He was very involved in his community. He was a scout leader and a Youth Group Leader at St. Luke’s United Church. He was a 30 year member & treasurer of the Donkin Vol. Fire Dept. and at the time of his passing was an Honorary Member. He was also a 35 year member of the RCL Branch 005 Donkin and held many offices including Service Officer, President, and Past President. He also served as Deputy Zone Commander for Zone 4 of the NS/NU Command.
Wayne so enjoyed singing in the Coal Town Chorus, the Legionnaires chorus, playing darts and playing the accordion with his family at the Maclean Family parties.
Wayne was a loving husband to his wife of 46 yrs. Patricia E (Hearn) Milley; a proud dad to his daughter, Mary E. (Kevin) Williams, Union Corner, NB; and his son, James Alexander Milley of Lake Louise, AB. He was a loving Poppy to his four grandsons, Ryan, Connor, Evan & Brandon.
He will be forever missed by his brothers-in-law, Larry (Merina) Kevin (Shirley) and Rick (Rosemary) Hearn and Jackie (Joan) Griffin; special niece, Tanya (Jason) Clements; great nieces, Rebecca and Baillie; and special nephew, John (Steve) Griffin. He will also be missed by his numerous nieces and nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and special friends the Hooper family.
He was predeceased by his mother and father, Agnes and Alex Milley; twin sisters in infancy and his sister, Lois Griffin; also mother and father-in-law, Mary E. and Arthur J Hearn, sisters-in-law, Ginny Covey, Rose Kenny, Dot Mulcahy, and Gerry Hicks and brothers-in-law, Art, Vic and Tim Hearn. Wayne was the last remaining member of his immediate family.
Donations may be made in Wayne’ s memory to the General Fund of the RCL Branch 005 Donkin, the Cape Breton Cancer Care Fund, Cape Breton Palliative Care, or a charity of one’s choice.
Visitation will be held on Sun., Mar.4, 2018, 7-9 p.m., Mon., Mar. 5th, 2-4 p.m. & 7-9 p.m. at Patten Funeral Home, Union Street, Glace Bay with funeral service Tues. Mar. 6th at 2 p.m. St. Luke’s United Church Donkin. Burial will take place at a later date.
