Lena Woodley
March 22, 1931 – March 5, 2018
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother on March 5, 2018 in Saskatoon, SK. Lena was 86 years old and passed away peacefully at her home. She was born to Peter and Pauline Balon on March 22, 1931 on their farm near Reynaud, SK. Lena was third in a family of ten children. Lena moved to Prince Albert in the late 1940’s and worked at the Airways Café where she met her future husband, Fred Woodley. They were married in 1955, with their only child Brenda born several years later. Lena started working at the Eaton’s lunch counter in Prince Albert around 1970. She held various other jobs at Eaton’s during her 25 year tenure, retiring in 1995 when the store closed. Lena loved working with the public and was known for her friendliness and outgoing personality. After her retirement, she did volunteer work in the health community and moved to Saskatoon in 2015. Lena loved taking care of her house and yard. She was very proud of her flowers in her yard and took meticulous care of them. Lena also loved travelling to the mountains with her family and spending enjoyable coffee outings with her many friends. She was also an avid walker. One of Lena’s greatest joys was spending time with her only granddaughter Maya and they shared many happy moments together right up until her very last day. Lena is survived by her daughter Brenda (Mike Tourigny) of Saskatoon, granddaughter Maya, and siblings: John Balon of Wakaw, Bill (Barb) Balon of Courtenay, Elizabeth Cunningham of St. Brieux, Victor Balon of Vancouver, and Edward Balon of Vancouver. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Doreen Woodley of Prince Albert and many nieces and nephews. Lena was predeceased by her husband Fred Woodley, parents Peter and Pauline Balon, and siblings: Helen Balon, Marie Dionne, Mike Balon, and George Balon. The remembrance service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at the Grosvenor Park United Church, 407 Cumberland Ave S., Saskatoon. Interment will be held at a later date at the South Hill Cemetery in Prince Albert. If friends so wish, memorial donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
