Stellarton : Donald Freeman Rumley age 75 of Stellarton passed away on Friday ,March 16th ,2018 in the Aberdeen Hospital ,New Glasgow. Born in New Glasgow June 27th 1942 he was the son of the late James Frederick and Lillian (Lays) Rumley.
Donnie worked in the MacBain Mine in Thorburn, Captain of the Mine Rescue Team , and also worked on the surface of the Allan Shaft .Until his retirement ,he was employed with Chignecto Regional School Board (Pictou and Cumberland areas) where he was Custodial Foreman .He was also an Honorary Member of the Westville Fire Dept where he volunteered for several years. Donnie was an avid Toronto Maple Leaf Fan.
Donnie was an adherent of St. Paul United Church , Westville and Wesley United Church ,Eureka. He enjoyed camping , hunting , fishing and walking with his wife Gloria. Donnie and Gloria enjoyed going for drives in the country looking for deer.
Surviving are his wife Gloria Ann Rumley , daughters ; Donna (Charles) MacDonald , Leta (AJ) Jordan of Westville stepsons John (Lisa) Morse , Will Morse ,stepdaughter Joanne Morse .grandchildren ; Krystal (Blair) Fraser , Nicole( Ian) Dorrington ,Taylor Linthorne (Harley) ; Lacey (Dennis) Bowie and Allister (Jennifer)Jordan , four great grandsons and three great granddaughters . Sisters-in-law Dorothy Rumley and Madeline Rumley of Welland Ont.
Donnie was predeceased by a brothers Fred Rumley ,Robert Rumley and grandchild Jamie Lee Linthorne.
At the request of the deceased there will be no visitation or service. The family would like to thank Dr. Lana and the staff of the Aberdeen Hospital. Donations in memory of Donnie may be made to the Palliative Care Society of the Aberdeen Hospital.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the H.C.MacQuarrie Funeral Chapel ,Stellarton.
