Michael David (Davy) Bennett passed away peacefully at the VG Hospital in Halifax, NS on Tuesday, Mar 6, 2018 at the age of 78 years, after a short battle with cancer. Following a short career in the Navy, Davy spent several years working throughout Newfoundland as an electrician/linesman and later settled in Wabush to carry out a 26-year career with Wabush Mines, from where he retired.
Davy was a dedicated volunteer and lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion. He volunteered many years of his life representing the Legion while holding positions such as President and District Commander.
People often spoke of Davy as a very kind and caring man, always one to help people in need. Highly respected and admired by friends and family, he was a mentor and role model for many people and touched the hearts of everyone he knew and was loved by all.
Davy was predeceased by his parents Pius & Maryann (Colombe) Bennett of Flat Bay, NL and his wife Joyce (Messervey) Bennett of St. Georges, NL.
He leaves to mourn: his siblings Cleo (Fred), Malcolm (Marlene), Kitty (Alex), Betty (Kevin), Teddy (Viola), Jessie (Brendan), Susan (Vince) and Darlene (Francis); children Beverly (David), Stanley (Rebecca), Lisa (Malcolm), and David; grandchildren Derek, Holly, David, Jory, Lisa, and Thomas; great-grandchildren Sheldon, Erica, Quinn and Abigail.
Family and friends gathered after his passing to celebrate his life, telling stories, singing songs and laughing, which was his wish. Service, Reception and Interment will be held in Newfoundland, coordinated around the Bennett Family Reunion Summer 2018.
