LUTZ (Joudrey Tufts), Verna Pauline – of Berwick, Kings Co. Our hearts are broken with the passing of our mother, grandmother and friend at the age of 97, on Saturday, March 24, 2018, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Lake Paul, Kings Co., on February 2, 1921, she was the second of 11 children born to the late Harry Marsters and Norma Pearl (Lutz) Joudrey. Mum's work ethic was staggering. She worked full time, was a long-time member of the Berwick United Church Choir and was a Life Member of the U.C.W. She served in various capacities in the Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion, Ortona Branch No. 69, Berwick, and received her 25-year pin. Mum delivered Meals-on-Wheels for many years and was the primary caregiver to her father-in-law and mother for 11 and 14 years respectively. She was a voracious reader and made beautiful quilts and knit sweaters for many family members. She possessed a wicked sense of humor and many were skewered by her wit over the years. Mum was kind, compassionate, an animal lover and a wonderful confidante. She is survived by son, Maurice Tufts; daughters, Darlene Robertson and Pam Lutz; brother, Clayton Joudrey (Elizabeth); sisters, Grace Lutz and Shirley Jones; daughter-in-law, Linda Tufts; sister-in-law, Rita Joudrey; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; many special nieces and nephews. Mum was predeceased by husband, Cecil; son, Perry Tufts; daughter, Marilyn Foster; granddaughter, Shelley Tufts; sisters, Olive Dorey, Helen Kelley, Charlotte Nickerson and Audrey Joudrey; brothers, Kenneth, Starr and Vaughn Joudrey. The family would like to say a special thanks to Dr. Gena Dickson and the staff on Med A at Valley Regional Hospital for their exemplary care during her last two weeks. There will be no visitation. Funeral service will take place at 2 p.m., Thursday, March 29, in Berwick United Church, 240 Commercial St., Berwick with Rev. Tom Woods officiating; with a reception to follow. Interment will be in Berwick Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations in her memory may be made to Berwick United Church or to Royal Canadian Legion, Ortona Branch No. 69, Berwick. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, toll free 1-855-825-3448. Online guest book may be signed by visiting: www.middletonfuneralhome.com
