Roy Douglas “Doug” Patterson - 85, of Coldbrook, passed away on Thursday, March 29, 2018 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Kentville, he was the son of the late Roy and Veronica (Pye) Patterson. Doug was a member of the Canadian Armed Forces, Artillery Division, having served during the Korean War. Following his military career he joined the family business, Patterson’s Beauty Salon, as a hair dresser and an entrepreneur, owning and operating the business for 54 years. Doug was a member of the High Tide Drifters Camping Club and enjoyed travelling and camping. He was an elder in the United Church of St. Paul and St. Stephen, Kentville, now Orchard Valley United Church, New Minas. Doug was a former member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 6, Kentville. He was involved with Scouts Canada, Kings District Council, achieving the title of District Scout Master. He is survived by his wife, Marie (Mitchell); two sons, Scott (Pam Mosher), Halifax and John (Morrina Selig), Centreville; many nieces and nephews. There was no visitation, by request. The funeral service followed by a reception was held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 2, 2018 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Reverend Ivan Norton officiating. Burial took place in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill. Donations in memory may be made to the Valley Regional Hospital Foundation, the Annapolis Valley VON, Orchard Valley United Church or a charity of your choice. The family would like to extend special thanks to the VON, Canadian Red Cross and the Valley Regional Hospital for their kindness, care and compassion.
