We, the family, regret to announce the passing of our sister, stepmother, aunt and friend Connie Ireland on March 29, 2018 at the Glace Bay Hospital surrounded by her family. Born in Sydney, November 25, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Effie (Hanson) Lund.
She resided in Hamilton, ON for over seventy years and moved back to Cape Breton in 2012. She was employed by Firestone Tire and Rubber Company, later at Highlight Tours where she enjoyed travelling and shopping. She was a member of The Red Hat Society of Hamilton, ON.
She resided at Seaview Manor for the last four years where she enjoyed meeting new people and making friends and the many activities they had to offer, especially the card games and art classes.
Connie is survived by her sisters, Margaret Reid, Seaview Manor and Joyce Keigan, Dutch Brook; a brother, Daniel ‘Donnie’ (Shirley), Sydney; stepchildren, Peter (Judy), James, Marilyn and Judy; sister-in-law, Margaret R. Lund, and brother-in-law, Allan Ireland. Also several grandchildren, nieces and nephews
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, Joseph Marshall; her second husband, Russell Ireland; sister, Florence MacKinnon, and brothers, Edward, John, James, William, Gerald and Earl.
As per her wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at 10-11 a.m. Funeral service at 11 a.m. with Rev. Robert Lyle officiating. Interment in Oakfield Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
