Mary Lee MacLeod, RN, 73 of Sydney passed away peacefully on March 30, 2018, surrounded by her loving family after a courageous and truly graceful battle with Cancer. Mary Lee was born in Sydney to the late Allan and Pauline (Palmer) MacDonald Peters.
She graduated from St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing on May 28, 1967. She worked a short time at Grace Maternity Hospital, but spent over 30 years doing what she was placed on Earth to do; working as a Mental Health Nurse at the Cape Breton Hospital, and later the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, including Community Nursing; retiring in 2007. Her nursing was a reflection on how she lived her life with the utmost kindness and compassion for all people. Mary Lee's life was spent giving and doing for others, with no expectation of recognition or need for praise. It was simply who she was.
Mary Lee is survived by daughters, Shauna (Danny Walsh) and Heather (Jason) Courtney, both of Sydney; the great loves of her life, devoted grandchildren, Bradley MacLeod and Katelyn MacNeil; brothers, Michael (Florence) MacDonald, Sydney and Barry Peters (Seamus), Toronto; sisters, Carmelita Daisley, Halifax, Larkell Bradley, Toronto, and sister-in-law, Georgina MacDonald, Cole Harbour. She is also survived by MacLeod brothers and sisters-in-law; many nieces and nephews, and countless friends, new and old.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her loving husband, John Bradley MacLeod; brothers, Edward and Johnny Peters, and step-father, John Peters. Visitation will take place, Wednesday, April 4, 2017 from 2-4 and 9-7 in the SW Chant & Son Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held 2 on Thursday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating.
Donations may be made to local mental health charities, Hospice Palliative Society of Cape Breton, VON, or to truly honor Mary Lee, you can do an act of kindness in memory of her.
