Sidney (Sid) Lloyd Garland, age 72, travelled to his final destination through Heaven’s Gates on Saturday, March 31st, 2018, after a valiant battle with cancer. Sid was born to the late John and Emmie Garland on April 19, 1945, in Montreal, Que., then ventured with his family to live in California for most of his childhood and young adulthood. In the 1960’s, as a young man, he travelled back to Montreal, where he obtained a Business Degree in 1973, then worked various business roles throughout the years. In the late 1970’s, he settled in Newfoundland where his parents were originally born. In the 1980’s, he became a strong Christian believer whereby his faith in God was the strength of his life. He met his best friend and soul mate, Brenda (nee Marshall) and they were happily married June 18, 1988. In the spirit of Christianity, his generosity, hospitality and words of encouragement changed the lives of many whose paths he crossed. He was a great cook and enjoyed preparing meals for his family and friends. On many occasions a stranger could be found sitting at the table who he met that day! As he had the west coast in his blood, he would travel yearly to his vacation home in Hemet, California, enjoying time with his family and life-long friends. In June, 2016, the family moved to Victoria, BC, where he spent the last days of his life enjoying the beauty of that City. His children were the light of his life: his son, Steven (Natalie) and his precious daughter, Amber Fawn. He was a devoted Father guiding his children on the right path in life. Besides his wife and children, Sid is survived by his sisters Florence Desaulniers (Vinnie), Lillian Meeds (Wayne), and Lorna Moore; brother Calvin (Barbara); brothers-in-law Lester Marshall (Roena) and Harold Marshall. Besides his parents, Sid is predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law Marge & Don Taylor, brother-in-law Bob Moore, father and mother-in-law Calvin & Rowena Marshall. Visitation will be at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue, St. John’s, NL, on Thursday, April 12, and Friday, April 13, from 2 - 4 pm and 7 - 9 pm. His Celebration of Life Service will be held from Barrett’s Funeral Chapel on Saturday, April 14 at 2 pm with inurnment to follow at Memorial Gardens.
