It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Donald John Allen on Tuesday, April 10, 2018, at the Ivy Meadows Nursing Home, Beaver Bank, NS at 76 years of age.
Born on May 2, 1941 in Sydney, Donald was the son of the late Wilson and Emma (Campbell) Allen.
Donald lived a simple life and was self-employed. He was raised in South Bar and was known for his hard working, yet easy going nature. He loved to volunteer with the Legion and Naval Vets. He was a life member at Branch 12 Legion and once held the rank of Sergeant-at-arms. He was a former member of the Cape Breton Naval Vets, where he also held the post of Sergeant-at-arms. He loved to camp and fish in his spare time.
Donald is survived by his wife, Deanna (Bett) Allen; children, Danielle, Veronica, Norman, Keith and William ‘Billy’; sister, Iris; former wife, Cathy; children, Scott and Nicci; as well as several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; niece and nephews.
Besides his parents, Donald was predeceased by his brother, Bruce; step-daughter, Tammy Lynn MacNeil and two grandchildren.
Visitation for the late Donald John Allen will be held at the Pier Community Funeral Home, Whitney Pier, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) on Monday, Apr. 16, 2018 from 7-9 p.m.
Funeral service to celebrate Donald’s life will be held on Tuesday, Apr. 17, 2018 at 2 p.m. at St. Alban Anglican Church with Archdeacon Brenda Drake officiating. A private family interment will take place at a later date.
Donations in Donald’s memory may be made to the Cape Breton Veterans Hospital Comfort Fund.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
