Norman B. “The Bearded Skipper” Peters

The death occurred with family by his side at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Charlottetown, on his 76th birthday, April 16, 2018, of Norman Peters, of North Rustico. Norman was the son of the late Jerry L. and Jean (Gallant) Peters. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Marie (Cullen) Peters; son, Corey (Tammy) Peters, St. Patrick’s; daughter, Colleen (Dr. Aaron) Sibley, Stratford; grandchildren, Reid and Myra Peters; Sophie, Simon, Evelyn and Violet Sibley; and special family member, Alicia McNally. He is also survived by brothers and sisters; Arliss, the Garden Home, Carl, North Rustico, Dolores MacPherson, Calgary, Rene (Carol), Charlottetown, Keith (Marie), North Rustico, Gail (late Orville) Cole, Charlottetown, Brendon (Lynne), North Rustico, and Ken (Sharon), Charlottetown; brother-in-law, Allan Cullen, Hope River, sister-in-law, Valerie Peters, Beach Grove; and former sister-in-law, Ruth MacPhee, Souris. Besides his parents, Norman was predeceased by his brother, Winston; infant sister, Eleanor and infant daughter, Erin Elizabeth. Norman was active in affairs concerning the fishing industry, a long time member of the Board of Directors of the PEIFA (Fishermen’s Association), and the North Rustico Harbour Authority. He was also active in his church and community, as a member of the Stella Maris Church Property and Finance Committee, a long time Eucharistic minister, and a supporter of the QEH Telethon. Resting at Central Queen’s Funeral Home, 2538, Glasgow Road, New Glasgow, for visitation on Thursday, April 19, 2018, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated at Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church, North Rustico, on Friday, April 20, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. Interment later in Stella Maris Cemetery.
