Iona Chetwynd


CHETWYND (Madden), Iona Gertrude – 88, East Baccaro, passed away in the Yarmouth Regional Hospital on April 17, 2018. Iona was born on January 10, 1930 at West Baccaro. She was the daughter of the late Lawson Esma and Vivian Leona (O’Connell) Madden. Iona was an active member of the Wesley United Church in Baccaro. She was an Elder and Clerk of Session for Wesley Baccaro and also Clerk of Session for the Barrington Pastoral Charge. She acted on several committees such as, Worship and Praise, Faith Formation and Pastoral Charge, Ministry and Personnel Unified Board, and Records Clerk for the Pastoral Charge. She was a member of the Baccaro United Church Women since its inception in 1962. She acted as U.C.W. secretary and then as U.C.W. treasurer for 55 years. Iona was also Postmaster at East Baccaro for 14 years. She enjoyed music, especially Gospel and Country Western. She was a people person and enjoyed being with people, hence why she was a member of two senior’s clubs. She looked forward to the bus trips with friends and made new friends along the way. She is survived by her son, Brian Anthony Chetwynd, Yarmouth; brother, Leroy (Avis) Madden, East Baccaro; several cousins, nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was predeceased by, husband, Anthony Wilfred Chetwynd; sister, Edna Fay Garron; brothers, John Austin Madden, and Elmer Weldon Madden. There was a visitation held, Friday, 7-9 p.m. at the H. M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Barrington. The funeral service took place on Saturday, April 21, 2 p.m. from the H. M. Huskilson’s Memorial Chapel, Barrington, with Rev. Brenda McCurdy officiating. Interment followed in the Seaview Cemetery, Baccaro. Memorial donations in her memory may be made to the Wesley United, Baccaro, or the Yarmouth Hospital Foundation.
