Lillian Rose (Doucette) Higgins

Lillian Rose Higgins (Doucette), age 82, passed away surrounded by loved ones on Wednesday, April 25 at the Colchester East Hants Health Centre in Truro. Born in Havelock, Digby County, Lillian was the daughter of the late Eben Doucette and Flora MacAlpine. Lillian resided in Truro for the majority of her life and spent over 30 years working as a seamstress at Stanfield’s Ltd. She will be remembered fondly as a loving, caring mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Her enthusiasm for life was inspired by her passion for camping, fishing, and spending time with her family. Throughout her life, she enjoyed creating and painting ceramics and, in her retirement, never turned down a game of cards or a puzzle. She was also an active member of United Church Women through St. Andrews United Church. Lillian will be lovingly remembered by her sons, Lorimer Jr. (Sheila), Dartmouth; Jeffrey, Spryfield; Paul (Beverly), Shortts Lake; Gary (Darlene), Truro; brothers, Micky, B.C.; Harry, Ont.; Philip (Donna), Truro; Victor (Judy), Weymouth; sisters, Doris Thurber, Weymouth; Barbara MacKenzie, Brookfield; Alma Leonard, Ont.; and grandchildren, Meghan, Kelly, Eben, Trevor, Melissa, Kyle, and Kassidy. Lillian is predeceased by her common-law husband Ross Taylor, and grandson Shaymous. Visitation will be held Friday, April 27, 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. at the Colchester Community Funeral Home. A service to celebrate Lillian’s life will follow on Saturday, April 28, 2 p.m. at Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro, with Rev. Boyd Vincent officiating. Interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Cystic Fibrosis Canada- Atlantic Region or the IWK Children’s Health Centre.
