We are very sad that our mother, Rachael (Nash) Hussey, passed away peacefully at the Highland Manor on April 28, 2018 at the age of 96.

Grand Nan, will be remembered with love by great-grandchildren, Morgan, Deanna, Holly, Ben, Abby, Rachael, Braelyn, Ella, and Samantha.
Mum lived a long and full life, teaching school in various communities in Cape Breton during World War II and raising a large family. She was a member of the Home and School for the Neil’s Harbour Elementary school later serving as president. She was the first president of the Ladies Auxiliary, Royal Canadian Legion Branch 85, a member of the Anglican Church Women of St. Andrew’s Church, and a creative and enthusiastic leader of the Girl’s Auxiliary. When her family was grown, Rachael used the cooking skills learned raising a large family preparing nutritious and delicious meals while employed with the Buchanan Memorial Hospital.
Mum loved her family and she hosted many a meal for family visiting from other parts of Cape Breton, Ontario and the States. She liked to set a pretty table and was very creative with whatever was available to decorate the table. She loved holidays and special days. She marked these with decorations, special and delicious foods, and lots of love. Having been a teacher, she was a great believer in education and encouraged her children to work hard to get an education.
Mum called Highland Manor home for the last 10+ years. She was very happy being involved in the activities at the Manor, sharing her life with childhood friends and she often said she was spoiled with care. The family is very grateful for the love and care shown by the staff of the Highland Manor and the community support and love given Mum and the family over the past number of weeks. It has been a blessing to us all. Special thanks to Reverend Carolyn Sharp for her love and care of Mum and her support for our family.
