Passed on: April 30th, 2018

It is with great sadness that we, the family of Theresa Anne MacNeil announce her passing at the Glace Bay Hospital on April 30, 2018.
Born in Barra Glen on June 20, 1932, she was a daughter of the late Stephen Rory and Annie Jane (Bishop) MacNeil.
“Nan,” as she was known to everyone, was a kind hearted and very loving person. Her door was always open to any child, stray dog or cat! Many people called her their second Mom. Nan always looked forward to many visits from friends and family especially at Christmas. She loved a good game of cards, hanging out with her “girls”, knitting, bowling and heading out for a great meal. She was a huge fan of Scottish fiddle music and was an excellent step dancer in her own right. She took great pride in her family and whatever they accomplished. She was our ‘Rock’, our ‘Glue’ and the reason, in her words, to “keep going, dear.”
Theresa is survived by her sons, Clayton (Karen Larick), Glenn (Donna), Lorne “Otis” (Kelly) and daughter, Paula. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Mistie, Crystal (Gerald Axeworthy), Adam (Jenn), James (Amy), Liam, Sara (Fred Timmons), Parker (Paige Jardine) and Stacey; her great grandchildren, Haleigh, Ty, Mason, Rory, Jordan, Breagh, Pyper and Jack; as well as her special furbaby, “Chloe”.
Theresa is survived by her sister, Sarah Rideout, Martina Skinner (Tom); brother, Cammie (Linda); sister-in-law, Mary MacNeil and brother-in-law, Fred Stamper. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, James Francis MacNeil; sister, Josie Stamper; brother, Michael MacNeil; brother, Joseph in infancy and daughter-in-law, Barbara.
Visitation will take place Monday, May 7th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at S.W. Chant and Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney.
Funeral Mass will take place Tuesday, May 8th at St. Columba Church in Iona at 11 a.m., with a brief visitation beginning at 10 a.m. Fr. Everett MacDow to officiate.
Donations in Nan’s memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
