At the age of 92, Anne MacDougall passed away at Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Sydney on Wednesday, May 9, 2018.

Born and raised in South Cove, Victoria County the daughter of the late Sadie Anne MacIver, Anne was raised by her grandparents John and Mary MacIver, aunts and uncles.

Anne trained at the Sydney City Hospital School of Nursing, class of ’48. She married Ian MacDougall in 1952, moved to Stellarton, Pictou County where she lived for close to 60 years, moving to Sydney seven years ago.

Anne worked as a public health nurse in Victoria County after graduation, worked as a specialist nurse in Baddeck and Pictou County, then worked for 17 years in the Eye Ward of the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. She was an active member of the Eastern Star Harmony Chapter, various groups in Sharon St. John United Church, including the UCW and craft group and in the Meals on Wheels program for a few years in Pictou County.

Anne and Ian built a cottage on the MacDougall Family property in East Lake Ainslie, where family and friends were always given a warm welcome and a place where family gatherings were often hosted. Anne enjoyed crocheting, doing the daily cryptoquotes, auction, 51, cribbage and games of bridge, some of which she played daily even into her 90’s.

She is survived by her children, Gordon, Toronto, ON; Sharon (Marc) Provencher, Algoma Mills, ON; Heather (Reg Delaney), Sydney; Paul (Sue), Halifax; grandchildren Adam (Jessica) Provencher, Ashley (Mike) Meunier, Erika (Brandon) Newman, Tylor MacDougall (Alexis Christodoulopoulos), Brett MacDougall, and step-granddaughter Buffy (Thomas) Moore; great grandchildren Jacob and Jesse Moore, River and Freya Meunier and Adrienne MacDougall. Anne is also survived by her cousins David (Linda) MacIver, Sydney River; Doris (Kenny) Boyd, Boisdale; Colin MacIver, Winnipeg; John (Linda) MacIver, Little Narrows; Margaret (Robert) Martin, Hammonds Plains; Mary MacIver, Port Hawkesbury; Ronnie (Bonnie) MacIver, Liverpool and Marilyn MacIver Sevigny, Vancouver, BC. Anne is also survived by her sisters-in-law Myrtle (late Dunbar) MacDougall, Marathon, ON; Vivian (late Lauchlin) MacDougall, St. Catherine’s, ON; Peggy (late Ainslie), East Lake Ainslie; Myra (late Lauchie) MacKay, Tottenhan, ON; Marie (Donnie) MacKinnon, Tottenham and by several nieces and nephews.

Anne is also survived by her closest friend of over 60 years, Chrissie MacMillian and her family, Stellarton, NS.

Anne was predeceased by her husband Ian in 2007 and infant son David in 1955.

The Celebration for Anne will be held in the Little Narrows Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Andrew MacDonald officiating. Interment will be held at a later date at the Brookside Cemetery, New Glasgow.

The family would like to thank the staff at MacGillivray Guest Home and Harbourstone Enhanced Care for the wonderful care given to their mother.
