It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Dawn, after a lengthy illness. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, May 20, 2018 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Born September 19, 1936 in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Edgar and Flora (Varner) Hillman.
Mom was a devoted mother and grandmother. She had a big heart; especially when it came to her family. Mom was a good listener and always had a cup of tea or a spare bedroom if you needed it. She will be greatly missed.
Mom is survived by her children, Debbie (Henry) Poswiata, Glenn (Yvonne) and Tracey (Thomas); grandchildren, Melissa, Megan, Mitchell, Rachel, Christopher, Logan, Rylee and Jenna; great-grandchildren, Avery, Carsen and Hayden; sister, Shirley Thurber; brothers, Arleigh and Sonny Hillman; sister-in-law, Marilyn Hillman, and brothers-in-law, Michael Marmulak and George Herridge.
Besides her parents, Mom was predeceased by the love of her life, husband, Bobby; son, Robert; sisters, Bev Herridge, Judy Marmulak, Eileen MacCharles and Pearl Ross, and brothers, Edgar, Ronald and Dougie Hillman.
A Celebration of her life will take place 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 23, 2018 in the SW Chant Funeral Home with Rev Sheldon Chant officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Palliative Care Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
The family would like to send a heartfelt thanks to the amazing nurses on 4-B and to the Palliative Care Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
