Carol Ann (MacGillivray) Campbell

CAMPBELL (MacGillivray), Carol Ann – 82, Truro, passed away Tuesday morning, May 29, 2018, at Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in St. John’s, Newfoundland, she was a daughter of the late William E. and Olive (Small) MacGillivray. Leaving to celebrate the completion of a long and happy life, during which she was blessed with the loving support of Murray, her best friend, husband, and latterly caregiver extraordinaire, are her daughters, Christine (Brian), Chico, CA and Jennifer (Claudio), Arlington, MA; granddaughters, Ruby and Layla, Arlington; siblings, Robin Fewer, St. John’s, NL; Jinx MacGillivray, Bedford; Bill MacGillivray (Terry), Kingsburg Beach; Bonnie MacGillivray (Ken), Galiano, British Columbia; Drew MacGillivray, Waterloo, Ontario; nieces and nephews scattered across the continent. Having received her early education at Bishop Spencer College in St. John’s, Carol graduated from Dalhousie University in Halifax. She taught in Halifax and at Cobequid Educational Centre in Truro until health issues forced early retirement. Further study at Dal provided the groundwork for a second career and, in subsequent years, she and colleague, James F. Smith, used the Colchester Historical Museum as a base for researching and writing about the Planter Townships of Cobequid and the beginnings of the public education in Nova Scotia. In the absence of any formal ceremony of remembrance, Carol hopes that sometimes when walking around her native Newfoundland and her adopted Nova Scotia, family and friends will think of one who took great delight in the heritage and natural beauty of the Atlantic Provinces. Donations to Colchester Historical Museum, Truro Homeless Outreach Society or charity of choice can be made at the funeral home and will be gratefully acknowledged. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro. Private messages of condolence may be sent to the family by viewing Carol Ann’s obituary on-line and selecting “Send A Condolence” at: www.mattatallvarnerfh.com
