Muriel G. Campbell

Passed on: June 3rd, 2018

It is with deep sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our beautiful mother, grandmother and sister Muriel G. (MacDonald) Campbell at the Glace Bay General Hospital on Sunday, June 3, 2018 surrounded by her loving family after a short illness. Born in Bridgeport, she was the daughter of the late Rose (Rennie) and John A. MacDonald.
Mom was a long-time employee of F. W. Woolworth, working there before her marriage, stopping to raise her family. She returned when her youngest started school, and was on the lunch counter for almost 20 years until her retirement.
Mom was a member of the Tuesday night bowling league at St. Anne’s for many years and played darts at the Sandbar Beverage Room and later at the Shamrock Club in Dominion. She had a passion for gardening and had several gardens in her beautiful yard. She cooked with love and loved to cook, her specialities being spaghetti and meatballs, tea biscuits, apple pies and chocolate cake with boiled icing.
Mom and Dad were beautiful dancers winning many competitions as they gracefully glided across the dance floor always having an audience.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Frankie in 1997, formerly of Dominion and together they raised six children of whom they were very proud of, Wayne (Jon Levin), Jacqueline, Brian (Donna), Lisa (Rick Clarke), Leslie (Margie-Beth) and Gerry.
She is also survived by her loving grandchildren, Mitchell Campbell (Natasha Kelly), Nicholas Campbell, Lauren Rose Collins, Logan Collins and Frankie Campbell. Also, her sister, Rose Baretta; sisters-in-law, Sheila MacDonald and Oppie Corbett, and many nieces and nephews, who all held a special place in Aunt Muriel’s heart. She will be missed by her fur baby, Phoebe.
Mom was predeceased by her brothers, Hughie, Billie (Marg) and Rev. Jackie; sisters, Mabel (Tom) Tellum, Helen (Mikey) McNeil, Ruthie (Gerald) Farrell, Elaine (Don) Arseneau, Lydia (Bill) Boutilier, and her nephews, Bobby Tellum, Billie Boutilier, Johnny Campbell and Basil Corbett.
The family would like to thank daughter-in-law Donna for her loving care of our mother while she was in the hospital, Dr. Kent Cadegan, Brenda, Dr. Kevin McNeil and Mom’s angels, the staff of 3rd East who became her extended family during her illness and provided her with excellence care. We will be forever grateful.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the IWK Children’s Hospital, Cape Breton S.P.C.A or Palliative Care.
Visitation will be held Thursday, June 7, 2018 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, NS 902-849-4199.
Funeral Mass will take place 11 Friday, June 8, 2018 at Immaculate Conception Parish, Bridgeport, with a burial to follow in Calvary cemetery.
