King’s Head – Sylvia (Langley) Dingle, 74, King’s Head, NS, died peacefully on June 19, 2018 surrounded by her loved ones.
Born in New Glasgow on Aug. 20, 1943 to the late G. Bain and Anne (Bartlett) Langley, she spent part of her childhood in Ottawa and Montreal, but always returned to her Nova Scotia roots. Sylvia was a dedicated nurse and an engaged member of the community. She was a talented pianist, organist and accompanist with a passion for quilting, gardening and travel. She was a treasured friend to many.
She studied at Queens University and graduated from nursing at the Montreal General in 1965. She paused her nursing career to raise her family of four children in Westville and spent her free time volunteering for many organizations, including the New Glasgow Music Festival and the Aberdeen Hospital where she helped spearhead the launch of the Aberdeen Hospital Foundation. With her children grown, she returned to nursing at the Aberdeen. In her retirement, she enjoyed winters in Florida, family time on the beach in Little Harbour, a good hand of bridge and hours spent in her craft room.
Sylvia was predeceased by her beloved son, Peter Whitman. She is survived by her husband, Duncan Dingle, and her children, Susan (Mick) Williams, Janet (Candice Kanepa) Whitman and Barbara (Scott) Elliott and their father, George Whitman, as well as grandchildren, Kyran, Bronwyn and Rowan Williams and Casey, Wren and Oliver Elliott, brother, John (Judy) Langley, sister, Linda (Norval) MacDonald, sister-in-law, Mary Elizabeth Fleming and step-daughter, Donna Dingle Delgado and her children, Christina and Robbie, along with nieces and nephews, Adam, Andrew, Nicholas, Lauren, Cathy and Bruce.
The family expresses its sincerest gratitude to the doctors and the nurses of the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Unit.
Visitation will take place the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, 55 Almont Ave., New Glasgow, Friday, June 22, between 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A funeral will be at Trinity United Church at 11 am Saturday, June 23, Rev. Donna Tourneur officiating. Family flowers only. Donations in memory of Sylvia may be made to the Aberdeen Palliative Care Society or Trinity United Church. Condolences may be sent by visiting: www.rhporter.ca
