Deacon Desmond Keating was received into the arms of the Lord on July 4, 2018, with his family’s circle of love and prayers. Des was born in Renews, served in the Canadian Air Force, joined the United Nations, resided in Long Sault, ON, retired in Witless Bay and he served as a Deacon along the Southern Shore and the greater St. John’s Area. Des had an adventurous spirit and a passion for the open road, blue skies and stormy seas. Predeceased by his parents Edith and Thomas Keating, sister Olive; parents-in-law Uriel and Thomas Murphy; brothers-in-law Aiden and Kevin Murphy, Paul Carey, Patrick Melvin, Norman Page, and Mike Butler. Leaving to mourn and treasure their memories, his devoted wife of 57 years and travelling companion, Maureen; loving daughters Denise and Joyce (Denis), precious grandchildren Shannon, Jeffrey, Trevor and Emily; siblings: Doris Butler, Barbara Carey (Ken White), Alex (Margie), Robert (Donna), Judy Ellis (Perry), Marian Page, Sharon (Noel Norman) and Tom; in-laws: Mina Melvin, Thomas Murphy (Mary), Sheilagh Harvey (Ronnie), Kay Aylward (Nick), Sharon Hayden (Carl), Uriel McCormack (Jimmy), Dianna Ryan (Bobby); a large circle of nieces, nephews, his community family and friends from across Canada and around the world. A big thank you to the staff of the Leonard A. Miller Centre for their care and compassion. Resting at Ryan’s Funeral Home, Bay Bulls from 2-9 p.m. on Saturday, July 7th, 2018 and at St. Patrick’s R.C. Church, Witless Bay from 2-9 p.m. on Sunday, July 8th, 2018. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, July 9th, 2018 at 10 a.m. from St. Patrick’s R.C. Church, Witless Bay. Interment to follow at Holy Cross R.C Cemetery, Witless Bay. Donations can be made in Des’ memory to the Canadian Cancer Society, World Vision or a charity of your choice.
