It is with heavy hearts, that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Marina Elizabeth Mercer (nee Young) residing in Mount Pearl, formerly of Upper Island Cove, at the age of 83 after a brief and courageous battle with cancer on Monday, July 9, 2018. Predeceased by her first husband Clyde Ralph Mercer, 1989, and Thomas Osborne, 2004, both of Upper Island Cove; brothers: Rev. John Young and Dr. Randolph Young, sister: Viola Hammond as well as special son-in-law; Kevin Penney. Leaving to mourn: daughters: Yvonne & Debbie (Chris), son: John (Kaska); grandchildren: Jennifer, Bradley, Daniel, Elizabeth, Aleksandra & Emilia; great-grandchild: Oliver, step-grandchildren: Keith & Katharine, & extended families members from Clyde Mercer & Thomas Osborne family, special friend and companion Lawrence Hearn of Nova Scotia and his extended family as well as brothers: Haig Young & Aubrey Young and a large circle of extended family and friends. Marina was a valued member of St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Upper Island Cove she was an organist and a member of the Church Choir. She was a valued volunteer in her home town for many years with the ACW, the Seniors Club and the School Lunch Program. She will be missed and remembered for her compassion for others. In the past years, she often travelled to Nova Scotia and spent time with a large group of friends at the cottage community of Wildor Park where she enjoyed rides on the quad, side by side and boat. She enjoyed "Miller Time" and pot luck gatherings as well as sing a-longs by the campfire and showed us all that you can really enjoy life in your senior years. As expressions of sympathy, flowers are gratefully accepted or donations may be made in her loving memory, to St. Peter’s Anglican Church Memorial Fund. The family will be receiving relatives and friends at SLADE’S FUNERAL HOME, Cranes Road, Upper Island Cove on Wednesday: 3-5 P.M. & 7-9 P.M.; Thursday: 2-5 P.M. & 7-9 P.M. and Friday: 10:30-11:30 A.M.
