Phyllis Ruth Oram White, of Halifax NS, passed away at Arborstone Enhanced Care in Halifax on July 16, 2018, in her 99th year. She was the daughter of Llewellyn and Ethel Squires and grew up in North Sydney, Nova Scotia.
Phyllis leaves five children, Douglas (Carolyn) of White Rock, BC, Grace (Lindsay MacDonald) of Vancouver, BC, Frank (Marie) of Dartmouth, NS, Jane of Dartmouth, NS, Suzanne Squires of Sendai, Japan; grandchildren, Tonya Tolmeijer (Patrick), Aaron (Leah), Paul (Adrienne Brabandt), Mark (Kacey), Suzi and Joanne, and great-grandchildren, Sam, Jake, Nolan, Violet and Jocelyn.
Beside her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, Sidney Oram, and second husband, Claude White, as well as her siblings, Georgina, Anne, Max, Grace and Gordon.
She is fondly remembered by Claude White’s children, Brenda Camp and Paul White (Cindy) and their children.
Phyllis was a proud member of the IODE. She enjoyed her work during the 1970s as a member of the Nova Scotia Planning Board and as a manager with the Nova Scotia Travel Bureau. She was a long-time member of Trinity Anglican Church in Sydney Mines and Calvary Baptist Church in North Sydney.
Phyllis was a beautiful woman with a strong and memorable personality. She was a life-long animal lover, a story teller, a fine bridge player and an excellent cook. A diva and fashionista, she was well known for her elegance and superb sense of style.
In her final years she was blessed with excellent caregivers. The family would like to thank the staff at The Berkeley, where she spent many happy years, Northwood Home Care and at Arborstone Enhanced Care in Halifax. A special thank you to her private caregivers Kim Matheson and Louise Doherty.
Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialsts (Bedford, 902-835-4212).
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice.
A celebration of her life will be held at the Berkeley, 35 Eisener Boulevard, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia on August 10, 2018 at 2 p.m. Interment will take place at a future date in North Sydney.
