Joan Marie Whyte

Passed on: July 20th, 2018

It is with great sadness that we, the family of Joan Marie Whyte, announce her passing on July 20, 2018 at Evergreen Home for Special Care, Kentville, NS. She was born in North Sydney on February 11, 1934 to the late George Bennett (Benoit) and Minnie (Clarke) but spent most of her years in Sydney Mines.
Mom devoted her life to caring for her family and creating a loving home for us. The aroma of homemade bread and cinnamon buns was always there to greet us when we came home from school and in later years, home to visit. She, along with our father, filled our home with good food, love, laughter, and music.
Mom is survived by her daughters, Connie MacLean (Sid), Sydney Mines, Carole MacLean (Peter), Upper Coverdale, NB, Colleen Jordan (Chris), Kentville and Cindy Whyte (Sunil), Brampton, ON; 12 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Ethel Hillier, Irene Robertson (Dave), Mary Faulkner, Linda Blackie, Sandra Andrews (Stuart) and Donna Edmunds (Lorne), and brothers, Douglas, Roy (Annette), Roderick (Theresa) and Andrew (Darlene).
She was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Max Whyte; brothers, Frank, Kenneth and also John, in infancy.
We would like to thank the staff of Evergreen Home for Special Care and the VON who took such wonderful care of Mom over the past few years.
Cremation has taken place and a gathering in Mom's honour will be held at J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, Sydney Mines on Saturday, July 28, 2018 from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. Interment at Brookside Cemetery, afterward.
Donations in Mom's memory may be made to Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia, The Salvation Army, or charity of one's choice.
Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com.
