It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mafalda (Tilly) (Viva) Thebault, 95, of Sydney Mines. Mafalda passed away peacefully Tuesday, August 01, 2018, surrounded by her loving family. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Tilly was born in Sydney Mines. She was the daughter of the late Augustus and Maria Viva. She was a founding member of the St. Pius X Parish Catholic Women's League and an ardent supporter of the church. Tilly was a caring and compassionate woman with a kind heart. She had a quick wit and was loved by all. Tilly was happiest when she was with her children and grandchildren, and one of her greatest pleasures was spoiling them with her beloved 'knuckles.'
She is survived by her three sons, Gerard (Ilona), Port Colborne, Ont., William, Annapolis Valley, Lloyd (Natalie), Boularderie. She is also survived by two daughters, Celeste (Carter) Young, Florence, Olga (Larry) Wilkie, Lantz. She is additionally survived by numerous nieces and nephews and sisters-in-law, Mary Viva, Barbara Viva and Marie Viva.
Tilly was predeceased by her loving husband, Lloyd and daughter, Yolanda. She was also predeceased by brothers, Louie, Umberto, Tony, Joseph, Nicholas, and Frank and sisters, Concetta, Annie, Yolanda, Gina, Theresa, Rose, Mary, Dominica and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Tilly will be missed by her grandchildren whom she adored so very much, Carter Jr, Curtis, Conrad, Matthew, Adam, Kaitlyn, Logan and step-grandchildren, Stasi and Ashley, and her 15 great-grandchildren.
In honoring Mafalda's wishes, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, Sydney Mines.
A Mass to celebrate the life of Mafalda Thebault will be held Monday, August 06 at 10 a.m. with Fr. James Oliver officiating in Holy Family Parish, Main Street, Sydney Mines. A reception will follow in the parish hall.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Alzheimer's Society or a charity of choice.
