It is with great sadness we, the family, announce the passing of Shawn Lois (Lawrence) Dilney, age 60, on Thursday, August 9, 2018 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by her loving family.
Born and raised in Sydney, Shawn worked at the Whitney Pier Daycare for over 30 years as a cook and early childhood educator. Dedicating her life to taking care of others, Shawn touched so many lives. Anyone who knew Shawn would say she had a passion for fashion and a smile that lit up the room. Shawn was the daughter of Elizabeth and the late George Everett ‘Micky’ Lawrence. Shawn is survived by her son, Gary (Kim); step-sons, Edward and John; grandchildren, Riley, Hannah, Ty and Mila; great-grandchild, Hunter; siblings, Gary (Leota), Edith (Don), Veronica, Dale and Wanda; god-children, Robyn, Tevon and Kahli; partner, James; second parents, Lemuel and Olga Skeete; many nieces and nephews; as well as many great friends, near and far. Besides her father, Shawn was predeceased by husband, Steve and sister, Elizabeth Ann in infancy. Visitation and funeral service to celebrate the life of Shawn Lois Dilney will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) on Wednesday, August 15, 2018. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 12-2 p.m. with service to follow at 2:30 p.m. in the All Faith Chapel with Rev. Dana Feltmate officiating. Light refreshments will be served in the reception area following the service. A private family interment will take place at a later date. Donations in memory of Shawn may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
