Ronald Elmer Mantie

Ronald Elmer Mantie

After 70 years of a life well lived, Ronald Elmer Mantie, slipped away quietly, peacefully, and with dignity at his home, with his family at his side. Born in Steinbach, Manitoba, Ron's career with the Royal Bank took him and his family to many locations throughout Manitoba where many new friends and memories were made. Retirement to the Maritimes, first to Bridgewater, N.S., then to Summerside P.E.I., was special for Ron. Being close to his grandchildren and watching them grow up gave him so much pleasure! Wintering in Florida with friends, old and new, were also special times for him. A true gentleman, Ron was a man of many interests and talents. He loved woodworking - everything from finishing a basement to his Intarsia; his yard and gardens were his pride and joy; he loved to golf, curl, bowl, and was an avid fan of the Winnipeg Jets and the Toronto Blue Jays. He was also an avid reader and loved to sketch and draw. Throughout the years and many moves, Ron gave much of his time to many local organizations including the Kinsmen and Lions Clubs. Missing him already but so grateful for the 46 years of togetherness full of joys, sorrows, and adventures is his wife Mary (Liska) Mantie. Proud to call him dad is son Dustin and his wife Tracy. Three very special grandchildren - Jacob, Mollie, and Dane were such a big part of Ron's life. Ron's daughter, Jillian, was tragically killed in an accident in 1998. Resting at the Moase Funeral Home, Summerside. By personal request, there will be no funeral service. Cremation has taken place and interment will take place at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery in Steinbach, Manitoba, at a later date. In lieu of flowers or donations - hug a loved one and tell them you love them. Life is too short not to let them know that. In keeping with his gentlemanly nature, Ron was very appreciative of the support and care he received from all staff at PEI Health. Special thanks to Dr. Matt Kutcher and a special Palliative nurse - Anna Marie Lynch. Ron was loved by many and will be deeply missed, but - know that his road was well traveled, and his end was gentle and on his terms. Thank you to all of you who have shown your support and kindness to Ron and our family throughout this journey. www.moase.ca
