Lowe, Asaph Eugene — 87, of Windsor, passed away on Friday May 6, 2011 at the Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born on July 25, 1923 in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, he was the son of the late John S. and Mary E. (Wolfe) Lowe. After attending high school in Bridgewater, Gene entered the civil service and subsequently volunteered for service in the Second World War. He served overseas with the Canadian Armoured Corps and joined the North Novies in Belguim. Gene participated in the European Campaign and was wounded in the crossing of the Rhine River. His unit was instrumental in the liberation of Holland. He was awarded the European Campaign Medals C.V.S.M. and clasp, the Canadian Forces Decoration and clasp, and the Dutch Liberation Medal. Following the war, Gene then entered the civil service and was employed with the Halifax Chronicle as circulation manager for the South Shore and Valley. He then enlisted in the Air Force and served for 22 years. After retirement from the service, Gene was self employed and also worked for several local businesses. He is survived by his wife, the former Muriel Mosher; son, John,(Norma), Beaver Bank; daughters, Judith (Kenneth) Pemberton, Upper Vaughans, and Deborah (Edward) vanKippersluis, Mount Denson; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister in infancy and a foster sister, Audrey Gidney. There was no visitation by request. A private family graveside service was held in Maplewood Cemetery May 10, 2011. The Rev. Bill Gibson officiated. Following the graveside service, a reception was held for family and friends at Lindsay’s Family Reception Centre, at 184 King Street, Windsor.
