Mary Virginia Bellefontaine
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Virginia Bellefontaine, age 97. She passed peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on August 29, 2018. She was predeceased by her parents Agnes and Leo and by her brothers and sisters. In her later years, Virginia was active in the CWL and the Diocese of Antigonish, who honoured her for her many years of commitment to social justice through the Cape Breton Coalition for Social Justice in support of family literacy, St. Vincent de Paul Society, local food banks, Loaves and Fishes, Aboriginal youth in need, and the ‘Chew on This’ strategy to eradicate poverty. Virginia is survived by her daughter, Kathleen; her granddaughter, Sharon (Bill); many nieces and nephews; their children and their children’s children, all of whom are spread across Canada and the US. She had a great love for all her family and was the thread that sewed them all together. We would like to express a special thank you to Palliative Care and the VON; her nephews Mel (Heather) and Leo (Lil); her niece Debbie, grand-nieces Leona, Linda, Lori, and Shannon and her great-grand-niece Samantha. We would also like to thank Ross Campbell and her neighbours Jenan and Ahmad for all their kindness.
Cremation has taken place, visitation for Virginia will be held from 9-11 a.m. on Monday, Sept 3, 2018, at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Parish, 40 Cabot St, Sydney, NS, with Funeral Mass to follow at 11 a.m., with Fr. Bill Burke officiating. With a reception to follow in the church foyer, and burial to follow the reception at Holy Rosary Cemetery, Westmount.
