Shirley Kyte

Passed on: September 2nd, 2018

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Shirley Rowena Kyte (nee Penney) on Sunday, September 2, 2018. Born in Sydney on March 19, 1936, to the late Ambrose and Mary (Gale) Penney, she was predeceased by her sister, Dorothy and brothers, Clifton, John and Raymond.
Survived and sadly missed by her loving husband of 57 years, George; son, Alan; daughters, Sheila (Ron) and Kelly (Kyle); grandchildren, Thea, Allison, Rachel and Ben, and many loving nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
Living life to the fullest, Shirley found great happiness spending time with her close friends, including her best friend of 60 years, Barbara MacLeod. Shirley and George enjoyed many active years together in the skating community, rarely missing a skating dance. She also took advantage of every opportunity to travel both locally and abroad.
Shirley had great pride in her children and grandchildren and was a source of never-ending support to them all. She cherished many days and family gatherings at “The Point” which held a very special place in her heart.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the doctors and nursing staff in An Cala Palliative Care at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for the wonderful level of care and comfort provided to them during this time.
A funeral service will be held at United Heritage Church, 500 Charlotte St. on Friday, September 7 at 1 p.m., with Rev. Rosemary Godin officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be made to the An Cala Palliative Care or a charity of your choice.
Words of comfort can be sent to the family at www.sydneymemorialchapel.ca or e-mail sydneymemorialchapel@ns.sympatico.ca.
