It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of our beloved brother and friend, Raymond Francis Gillis, age 65, on September 8, 2018 at the New Waterford Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Born in New Waterford on December 28, 1952, he was the son of the late John Archie and Marguerite (Brady) Gillis.
Raymond worked at the Horizon Achievement Centre for 35 years. He enjoyed going to church at St. Leonard’s on a regular basis.
Raymond was a well-known and very outgoing person who enjoyed being around family and friends.
He was a long-time member of the French club and loved to sing there on Karaoke night.
Raymond loved his music especially fiddle music and on Tuesday night step dancing at the Army/Navy/Air Force in New Waterford.
Raymond is survived by his brother, Danny; sisters, Rebecca (Francis) Fiore, Shauna Gillis (Steph), all of New Waterford; he is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by grandparents, Jim and Catherine Gillis and David and Nellie (Brady) Crombie; brothers, Edwin, John Boyd, Lloyd, Robert; sister, Barbara, and sister-in-law, Debbie.
Visitation for Raymond will be held on Tuesday, September 11, 2018 from 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Parish of St. Leonard Church, Mount Carmel Avenue, New Waterford. A luncheon will be held in St. Leonard’s Parish Hall, Convent Street, New Waterford.
Cremation will take place following the Funeral Mass with interment in St. Agnes Cemetery at a later date.
Donations in Raymond’s memory may be made to Horizon Achievement Centre, Sydney.
