Christine Munro, was an inspiring mother, wife, daughter, aunt and friend. She passed away September 10, 2018 in Sydney, N.S. Christine was born April 4, 1926 in Frizzleton, daughter to Donald and Dorothy (Carmichael) Stewart.
She was happiest when family and friends surrounded her table, enjoying her cooking and engaging in lively conversation. She was passionate about many things including handcrafts, genealogy, crossword puzzles and traditional Cape Breton music. Christine was a gifted crafts person who enjoyed quilting, knitting, weaving and crocheting.
After her beloved husband, George Patrick passed away Christine moved to Sydney to be with family. She enjoyed going to “Club” every day where she made new friends and enjoyed the daily activities. In her later years Mom resided at the Creative Care Unit at the Cove Guest Home, Sydney, NS. We, her family are so thankful for the exemplary care and love she received while living there. Each year, with the arrival of spring, her fondest wish was to return to her beloved home on the Shore Road where she could watch the fishing boats, tend her flowers and “dip her feet in the Gulf of St. Lawrence”.
Christine is survived by her children, Glenda (William) Hiltz, Porters Lake, John (Patricia), Timberlea and Grace (John), Sydney. She enjoyed following the lives of her grandchildren, Erin, Drew, Kelly, Andrew, Kirsten, David, John and Jason, as well as the antics of her seven great-grandchildren and the accomplishments of her nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her sister, Frances and brother-in-law, Blaine Ross.
Besides her parents, and her beloved husband, Christine was predeceased by her cherished daughter, Dorothy; dear grand-daughter, Janine O’Rourke; her brother, Clarence Stewart; sisters-in-law, Mary Corbett, Grace Munro, Anna Hart and Hilda Stewart; brothers-in-law, Lloyd Corbett, Charles Munro and Emery Hart.
Visitation will be at Sunset Funeral Co-operative, Margaree Valley on Thursday, September 13 from 6 to 9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held in Calvin United Church, Margaree Harbour on Friday, September 13 at 11 a.m. with Rev Alicia Cox officiating. Internment will be at Whale Cove Cemetery.
Memorial donations in memory of Christine may be made to Calvin United Church, Margaree Harbour or The Creative Care Unit at The Cove Guest Home in Sydney.
