It is with broken hearts, we the family of Donald Cameron Leslie announce his passing on Wednesday, September 12 at Celtic Court after a lengthy illness.
Born in Sydney, April 23, 1965, Donnie was the youngest child of Lauchlin “Lauchie” Leslie and the late Mildred” Millie” (Polley) Leslie, all of Westmount. Donnie was employed for many years with Rudderhams Source for Sports and later at Gillis Building Supplies where he will be remembered by all who came through the door for his infectious smile and outgoing personality. His love for sports began in his toddler years when someone strapped a pair of skates on him and away he went. His passion for playing the game was unmatched and he made long-lasting friendships which he always held close. Donnie was a member of the Cape Breton Colonels Maritime “AAA” Team and captured the Bronze Medal at the 1982 Air Canada Cup Championship in Vitoria, BC. The team was inducted into the Cape Breton Sports Hall of Fame in 2010.
In the Hockey off-season he would meet up with his buddies and it was off to the ball field and golf course, always finishing at the 19th hole.
He is survived and left to mourn by his wife of twenty-eight years, Deborah May (Peters) Leslie and his beloved children, Madison Dawn and Brandon Peter. Donnie also leaves behind his Dad Lauchie; his siblings, Wendy (Ray) Coombs, Sydney River, William “Billy” (Adelle) BC, Beth (Stewart) Latwaitis, AB., and brother-in-law, Wayne Walker, Sudbury, On.; mother and father-in-law Bob and Carol Peters, Howie Centre, brothers-in-law, Robbie (Peggy) Peters, AB and Dougie (Susan) Peters, Halifax; aunts, uncles and many nieces and nephews.
Donnie was predeceased by his mom, Mildred “Millie” Leslie and sisters, Cathy and Melissa in infancy.
Visitation for Donnie will take place Monday, Sept. 17, 2018from 6-8 p.m. at S.W. Chant and Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra Street, Sydney. A Celebration of his Life will take place the following day, Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2018, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Rev. Sheldon Chant to officiate.
Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice.
