Dorothy 'Marie' MacKinnon

Born In: Neil's Harbour

It is with great sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing of Dorothy “Marie” (MacIntosh) MacKinnon, 74, of Smelt Brook, surrounded by her loving family after a long battle with metasticized breast cancer.
Born in Neil’s Harbour, the daughter of the late Peter and Flora (MacKinnon) MacIntosh, Marie enjoyed growing up in a large family surrounded by her brothers and sisters. She met and married the love of her life, Wendell MacKinnon, and raised five children, all while working at different employment opportunities throughout the years. She made great friends everywhere she went. Marie was “Mom” to everyone, she had so much love to give, and gave it freely. Her family and grandchildren were her greatest joy and she spent countless hours cooking, baking, and doting on them but also on all the neighbourhood children. She was also known to take in strangers and was only happy when everyone had a full belly. She loved a good game of cards and spending time in her garden. She was looking forward to the birth of her great-grandson this month.
Marie is survived by her children, Gladstone (Mary Sue) Ingonish, Keon, Smelt Brook, Bruce (Georgina) Ingonish, Natalie, Smelt Brook, Scott (Victoria) Manitoba; grandchildren, Kyle (Tiffany) Truro, Logan (Angela) Alberta, Justine (Troy) Ingonish, Katrina, Port Hawkesbury, Blake, Ingonish, Desiria (Allan) Ingonish, Andrew , Smelt Brook, Brittany, Edmonton, Tyler, Manitoba; step-grandchildren, Justin and Stephane Maynard (Cheticamp); great-grandchildren, Declan, Leighton, Ellis, Lexie, Maci and Liam and many wonderful nieces and nephews.
Siblings, Joyce (Nelson) Dixon, South Harbour, Rita (Edward) Briand, Smelt Brook, Selma (Kevin) MacKinnon, Sackville, NS, Leona (Russell) Harris, Cheticamp, Alice (Patrick) MacKinnon, Bay St. Lawrence, Murdock (Donna) MacIntosh, Smelt Brook, Billy (Bertha) MacIntosh, Smelt Brook.
Predeceased by her sisters, Annette (Louis Dixon), Glace Bay and Suzie (Murdock) MacKinnon, Bay St. Lawrence and two sisters at birth, Stella Doreen and Mary Ellen MacIntosh.
