J. Leonard Gauvin

With sadness we announce the sudden passing of Leonard of Central Bedeque in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital on September 13, 2018, age 77. Born in Allardville, New Brunswick, he was the son of the late Oliva and Josephine (Legacy) Gauvin. Beloved husband of Joan (Seeley) Gauvin, he was the father of sons Andy (Marian) of Winnipeg and Jacques (deceased in 1995), daughters Corinna (David) Stubbs of Budd Lake, New Jersey; Carmen of Calgary, and Anna (Paul) of Winnipeg. He was grandfather of Chris Charriere of Winnipeg Eric Charriere, Dustin Stubbs of Georgetown, ON; Molly, Quinn and Jonah of Winnipeg; Maddy, Ellen and Hannah of Calgary and Emma and Lily of Winnipeg. The eldest of a family of eight, his siblings were Norbert (Nicole) of Moncton; Aldore (Jeanne Mance) of Bathurst, N.B.; Fernand of Shippegan, N.B., Aline of St. Catharines, ON; Jacqueline (deceased); Roger of Moncton, N.B. and Lucie (Guy) of Redemption, PQ. Leonard served 5 years in the Air Force, from 1959 to 1964. When stationed at Portage la Prairie, MB he met Joan who joined him in New Brunswick at the end of his service. Next move was Fredericton Business College. They were married in 1965 in St. Dunstan's Church in Frederiction. In 1966 they returned to Manitoba where all their children were born. Leonard was a creative carpenter, building a large dome house in the early eighties. Leonard and Joan made three extended trips to Africa which were lasting experiences of a lifetime. Leonard loved his children and his grandchildren. His life was full of losses and joys. Music was one of his joys. He enjoyed playing guitar and banjo. In 2010 Leonard and Joan became Prince Edward Islanders, a happy move. His debilitating illnesses were trials that can only be offered up to our loving Father. His funeral will take place at St. Peter's Church, Seven Mile Bay on Tuesday, September 18 at 10:30 a.m. Interment will take place in the spring at Glenlawn in Winnipeg with precious son Jacques. In lieu of flowers, donations could be made to the St. Peter's, Seven Mile Bay Cemetery Fund. There will be no visiting hours by personal request.
