Theodore I. ‘Ted’  McNeil

It is with heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the passing of our much beloved father, grandfather and friend Theodore McNeil, age 89, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by friends and family after a fall at home.
Ted was born in Reserve Mines, he was the son of Neil and Aileen (MacDonald) McNeil.
Ted lived his entire life in Reserve Mines, and during the war years became a blood donor, a practise he continued for the rest of his life. He was also a founding and lifetime member of the Reserve Mines Fire Dept., in his younger days, he fought fires, preformed rescues and raised money in service for his community.
He worked most of his life for J.W. Stephens as a machine operator until the mill closed in 1982.
In his retirement, he prided himself on his handmade Christmas and Halloween decorations and loved to spend time tinkering in his workshops.
Ted is survived by his three sons, John (Wendy), Robert (Lisa) and Barry; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his sister, Barbara; special niece, Aileen, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Marge, of 67 years; daughter, Deborah; brothers, Arthur, Neil, Gerald and John; sisters, Marie, Catherine, Sister Josita, Mae, Carmella and Alexis Marie who died in infancy.
Cremation has taken place. Family will be receiving visitors one hour prior to the service which will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 19, 2018 with Fr. Daniel Boudreau officiating at T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, NS (902-849-4199). Burial to follow in St. Joseph’s Church.
Donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or Cape Breton Palliative Care, Sydney.
