It is with heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the sudden passing of Eddie Bates at home on Sunday, September 23, 2018.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of Martin and Annie Mae (Arsenault) Bates.
He was employed with Stelco for many years. Eddie enjoyed going fishing, playing tarbish, going for walks, he enjoyed his trips to Tim Hortons, and volunteering at the Food Bank. In his earlier years, he coached baseball. He was a member of My Father’s House, Reserve Street.
Eddie is survived by his sisters, Patsy Morrison (Hughie), Marie (Stuart) Murphy, Martha Green, Leone (Sheldon) Brown; brother, Bill (Shirley) Bates; nieces and nephews; daughter, Jessica; son, Jason; and one grandson; as well as his furry friend, Puff.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Theresa; and brother, Fabien ‘Duke’.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, September 27, 2018 at My Father’s House, 83 Reserve St., Glace Bay with Pastor Melvin Wheaton officiating. Reception to follow.
Donations in Eddie’s memory may be made to a charity of choice.
