John Gerald ‘Jay’ McNeil

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jay McNeil, age 82, on September 29, 2018, surrounded by his loving family, after a lengthy battle with dementia.
Besides his parents, John Charles and Margaret (McDonald) McNeil, he was predeceased by brothers, Yomi, Dee, Charlie, Leo, Melvin; sisters, Johnina, Mildred and infant sister, Katie.
He is survived by sons, John (Kim), Reserve Mines, Michael (Marsha), Gardiner Mines, Sheldon (Ann), Ontario, Keith (Roseanne), Ontario, Billy (Donna), Sydney; daughter, Lois (Danny), Dartmouth; brothers, Nashe, Ontario, Boe (Florence), Coxheath, Jerry (Terri Lynn), Dominion; sister, Renee, Ontario. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Jay retired from Devco Coal Company, due to an accident. He later worked as a carpenter, building homes and doing repairs. Jay loved talking to his friends on the CB set and was well known for doing all repairs on everyone’s CB radios.
In Jays later years, Jay lived with his son Michael and daughter-in-law Marsha in Gardiner Mines. During this time, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and he enjoyed his walks to Dominion Beach.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at 11 a.m. immediately followed by a memorial service at 12 p.m. with Fr. Daniel Boudreau officiating at TJ Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, NS (902-849-4199).
