We, the family of Queenie Luker, age 92, regret to announce her passing on Thursday, October 4, 2018, at the Northside Community Guest Home, with her family by her side.
Born in Sydney Mines on June 5, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Eleanor Briggs of Sydney Mines. She was a member of Wilson United Church, Florence.
Queenie was a member of the Florence Firehall Ladies Auxiliary for many years, and worked as a cleaner at Florence Elementary School until she retired. She was an avid bingo player, and loved her games of 45. She considered her cabin in Sugarloaf to be her home away from home, and swam every day she was able.
Queenie is survived by sons, Brian (Kathy), Bruce (Linda), and Ricky; daughter, Pauline (Mike); daughters-in-law, Mary, Heather and Heidy; 13 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her beloved husband, Robbie; siblings, Ernie, Wally, and Eileen; sons, Robert, William, and Gary, along with grandson, Blaine.
We would like to take the opportunity to thank the staff at Acadia House at the Maple Hill Manor in New Waterford, where she lived for several years before moving to the Northside Guest Home, where she also received excellent care from the staff and palliative care team.
A celebration of Queenie’s life will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2018, at 2 p.m. in Carman United Church, with Rev. Nick Phillips officiating. Reception to follow in the church hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Queenie’s memory may be made to Carman United Church, or a charity of choice.
Words of comfort may be forwarded to her family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com.
