It is with broken hearts that we, the family of Mary Cecelia Barrett, 81, of Glace Bay announce that she passed away on October 3, 2018, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Julia (MacDonald) and Edwin Yates. Cecelia was an extremely loving and devoted mother, grandmother and wife. She never missed an event for her grandchildren. She enjoyed going to bingo with her sister, Coleen. She worked at the Hudson’s Bay Company for 14 years.
Cecelia is survived by her son, Jim (Thelma), daughters, Jane Anne Barrett and Sheena Bach; granddaughters, Angela Deveaux, Kimberley Barrett, Kristen and Julia Bach; great-grandchildren, Chris (Olivia Colosimo) Deveaux and Sarah Deveaux. She is also survived by sister, Coleen (Joe) Morrison, sisters-in-law, Shirley MacPherson and Janice Barrett along with many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years Cecil; brothers, Thomas and Bobby; sister, Alice Seward and son-in-law Darryl Bach. The Funeral Mass for Cecelia will be held on Monday, October 8, 2018 at 10 a.m. at Holy Cross Church, Glace Bay with Father Norman MacPhee officiating. There will be a reception following the Funeral Mass. Burial will be at St. Anthony’s Cemetery. Donations in Cecelia’s memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
